William Notman
Robert Duncanson meet William Notman ( 1821-1891) Canada’s best Photographer in 1863. Duncanson sat up a art school teaching Hudson River style of painting & helped paint backgrounds in Notman’s studio. Notman had over 50 Employees and said his work was so good because he hired the best. He had patents for his fake snow and ice effects in his studio. The image of the children tobogganing was taken in his studio. He is credited with inventing the Halftone printing technic. The McCord museum has over 450,000 images. Notman was the photographer of the queen.

William Notman is credited with taking 2 or 3 known photos of Robert Duncanson in 1864. Image 1 is a Wet collodion negative, Silver salts on glass. Image 2 is an Albumen print, Egg whites and Silver salts on paper mounted on paper using the glass negative.
In 1864 Notman & Duncanson took photos of some of Robert's paintings and sent them to Europe in advance of his 1865 tour.
